An artist of Queens County. BiographyUntil 1983 I worked primarily on location and from life using pastel. I began painting with acrylics in 1984. I found the transition from pastels to acrylics both natural and exciting. Acrylic allows for large areas of surface to be covered in quick motion strokes that express directly my inner minds eye. While location work is essential for developing observation and skill, working from my inner vision is more artistically satisfying. In most of my landscapes, there is an absence of people, buildings or manufactured presence. They are abstractions of my interpretation of the place and become an extension of an internal "centering", a balance of one's mental, emotional and spiritual well being. Recent work in exhibit design encouraged me to paint environments and to create sculpture. Artifacts took on deeper meaning and I began incorporating them into paintings. Personal pieces of cloth metaphysically assume a multilayered visual statement Teaching "visual intelligence" has been a strong area of concern to me.
