An artist of Kings County. BiographyJoanne studied the technique of soapstone sculpture from Deborah Wilson while living in BC, and felt inspired to pursue sculpting on a full time basis. While prospecting for gold and searching for historical sites in the picturesque wilderness of BC, Joanne developed a respect and admiration for the Grizzly Bear, which she portrays in her sculptures as strong and powerful, yet shy and beautiful animals. She also sculpts a variety of other wildlife, using Brazilian soapstone or, occasionally, white Alabaster. Joanne relocated to PEI in 2006, and has now established her soapstone sculpting studio in PEI, where she enjoys sculpting and plans to teach the technique of soapstone sculpture. While living in Western Canada, Joanne sold her sculptures through the Gainsborough Gallery in Calgary, The Bronze Rooster Gallery in Kelowna, the Lloyd Gallery in Penticton, The Ambience Gallery in Revelstoke, and the Rendezvous Art Gallery in two locations in Vancouver.
