Biography

Daphne Large founded Village Pottery in 1973 after graduating with a degree in Fine Arts & Art Education from Nova Scotia College of Art & Design. Returning to the Island she opened a summer studio and shop in New London, and a winter studio in Charlottetown.Restoration of the 1855 building in New London continued and in 1994 the building was purchased by Daphne and her husband Ian Scott and moved to its present site with an expanded studio and a restoration of the shop and gallery. Daphne continues to operate a home studio in Charlottetown, as well as the shop in New London.Daphne has been an active member of various Prince Edward Island arts organizations including serving as Chair of the PEI Council of the Arts, and on the executive of the Crafts Council. In 2004 she received the Outstanding Retailer award from the Atlantic Canada Crafts Awards of Excellence.http://villagepottery.ca/
